  • The Great Summer Quiz

    Fri 24 May 2013

The Great Summer Quiz has been organised by two of our year 6 pupils in order to raise funds for the school and its pupils.

It consists of 100 different questions for juniors and infants, which are multiple choice. The correct answer needs to be ticked and the children should try to answer as many questions as they can. They can ask you to help them and you can help them to find out the answers if wanted. The questions are a mix of school subject based questions and general knowledge.

The children should politely ask friends and family if they would sponsor them. Remember that there are 100 questions. Children could be sponsored for each answer they get correct or a total amount. So, if a sponsor promises 3p per correct answer, and they are all answered correctly, then they will give £3 in total. Please remember to only ask for sponsorship from people you know well.

Quizzes should be returned to school by June 7th. Please remember to name it. They will be marked and returned to the children by June 10th and then children will have two weeks to collect their sponsor money. Please have sponsor money collected and returned to school in a named, sealed envelope by Friday 21st June.

Thank you for participating in this quiz, raising money for The Dassett School and, hopefully, having fun at the same time.

  • BREAKING NEWS Visitor to The Dassett

    Thu 23 May 2013
Our reporter, who was on the scene first thing this morning, has told us that a very large construction has appeared overnight at the top of the steps by the school entrance.
It has been positioned in one of the large seated planters and clearly resembles a nest. Furthermore there are three large egg like objects in the nest which we can only assume are, well, eggs!
Of most concern is the size. Anything, and at this stage we can only assume it to be a THING, that could lay an egg of that size must be very, very large indeed - keep your eyes open.
But why us? Why there and why now? What laid these eggs? Are they eggs? At this stage we have more questions than answers.
    More as we get it...........................

    NEWS JUST IN....

As pictures taken at the scene reveal there are cracks, that's cracks appearing in at least two of what are rapidly becoming known as 'eggs'. Caution is advised to anyone approaching the school. Mrs Hine is cordoning off the area and we are asking anyone with more information to let us know exactly what they think is happening.
Interviews with Mr Maries, Mrs Parkes and Abacus staff, all of whom were on site early this morning, have revealed nothing. How? When? Why? What? Where from? Can anyone throw light on this frightening set of events.
    Be careful out there.

Luckily the children became investigators and reporters, story tellers and designers as they used their literary skills to decide what the creature could have been, what it must be like and what would be in the eggs.

Our PCSO, Matt Hodgetts, even popped in to do his own investigation and assure every class that we were all OK. Alas even he could not shed light on our mysterious visitor.
In the afternoon a couple of children from each class shared their piece of writing with the whole school in an assembly and imagination was certainly to the fore, the quality was truly excellent.

By Friday morning, to our amazement, all was gone. We are sure that whatever it was had hatched its eggs and departed with its offspring, issue, brood, litter, clutch? Still so many questions!

  • Reception and Abacus Church Service

    Wed 22 May 2013
All of the children in Reception and Abacus had a wonderful time this morning at the Church of St Peter and St Clare in Fenny Compton. They enjoyed the songs and Bible story from Reverend Mike and were full of smiles on their return to school. We were delighted to see the parents that were able to join us for this special occasion and would like to thank all involved in making it such a super service.
  • New Maths Schemes

    Wed 15 May 2013

We have introduced two new schemes for helping the children with their maths development,

Awesome Additions and Cracking Times Tables.

We will be starting both of these new and exciting’ Cracking Times Tables’ and ‘Awesome Additions’ schemes after half term. Reception and Year 1 pupils will be working through their ‘Awesome Additions’ whilst Year 2 to Year 6 pupils will be busy ‘Cracking’ their Times Tables. Each week children will spend 3 minutes working on a test of different levels of basic skills and they will receive a certificate each time they complete it with 100% success. They will work towards becoming an ‘Awesome Adder’ or a ‘Member of the Grand Order of the Master Multiplier.’

Both of these highly motivating schemes will help children to embed their basic number facts, which will then be essential for applying to other areas of mathematics such as fractions, money and problem solving.

Both of the Parent Leaflets have been sent home. ‘Awesome Additions’ to the Parents of children in Reception and Year 1 and ‘Cracking Times Tables’ to Year 2-6. The plan is that children will continue with the ‘Awesome Additions’ scheme until the end of Year 2 when they will start ‘Cracking Times Tables’. However, we know that some children will complete the scheme earlier and some will take slightly longer and we will make appropriate adjustments for those pupils who need them.

The children’s record in the green book will be ticked as they progress through their times tables or additions. Please help your child by practising the appropriate number facts at home for the level that they are on.
