  • Netball Match Report The Dassett vs Moreton Morelll

    Sun 23 Mar 2014
After school on Friday 21 March 2014 The Dassett School Netball club travelled to Moreton Morrell Primary School for a rematch.  Our last match at The Dassett was very short due to heavy rain.  It was sunny on arrival and we were all very excited and enjoyed playing in the match.  The squad included Sophie Moll (Captain), Lily Whyman, Evie Roberts, Emma Davies, Izzy Wicks, Caitlin Hart, Lily Olsen, Amy Goldsmith and Ellie Goldsmith.

A short shower in the last quarter did not stop us from achieving success.  Everyone tried their best and we won 16 – 2.  The goals were scored by Evie, Sophie and Emma.

The last meeting had resulted in a 2 – 0 win for Moreton Morrell.  We felt we had improved a lot since that match, playing much more as a team and thinking more about our game, marking players and moving into space for the passes.

Thanks go to Mrs Hine for organising the event, Mandy for teaching us all our amazing skills, the parents who provided transport and the supporters.

  • Peace Garden

    Fri 21 Mar 2014
We are delighted to be working with local Landscape Designer Cherie Lebbon on a Peace garden for the top of the slope outside the Year 1 and 2 classrooms. She has designed the garden in the shape of a church aisle to be a quiet and reflective area which stimulates all of the senses - using textures, scents and colour from the planting and sound from the chimes in the trees and the gentle trickling of water from the solar powered water feature.
It is a truly inspirational garden and we look forward to it developing over time. We already have 420 hedging plants from the Woodland Trust to plant during the first stage of its development.

Warwickshire County Boys Choir and Choristers – Voice Trials for new applicants
Voice Trials for the Warwickshire County Boys Choir and County Choristers will take place on March 29th and nominations from your school are now requested.
The venue will be decided later, to suit the majority of applicants, and an additional location and date may be arranged to cater for those unable to attend on the 29th.
You are asked to identify boys aged  7 and 8 years who you think will benefit from such an opportunity, and encourage parents to bring them to the voice trial. Although this age group is our main focus, if you have likely candidates from other year groups who you wish to promote they will also be very welcome .
Schools may find it helpful to use the attached parental letter and form*. Parents who express an interest will be allocated a fifteen minute time-slot for their son to attend. After this, parents will be advised which group their son should attend and schools will be notified of the results.
It is important to state that no prospective member will be turned away. The voice trial is a way of identifying the appropriate group for the child. (Without exception every boy who has wanted to has eventually joined the choristers).
Warwickshire County Boys Choir and Choristers have reached a very high national standard. The County Boys Choir was in the Grand Final of BBC Choir of the Year 2010, and since then the County Choristers (made up of c. 80 boys within the full County Boys Choir) have won many awards and are in great demand.    In 2012 they were awarded the title of ‘Choir of the Day’ in the ‘UK Choir of the Year’ Competition, and they have been selected for the National Music for Youth Finals in Symphony Hall for four consecutive years, winning two major awards. The boys have also appeared on National and local TV and radio and at many high profile events, taken part in three overseas tours, and recorded three CDs.
Please note that strong links between schools and the County Boys are most important to us and County Boys Choir members are encouraged and expected to support music within their school. Heads and Music teachers are always welcome as guests at our concerts.  Do please help your school to be represented in this highly successful County group.
    With kind regards

  • Double Booked - Booking Now

    Thu 13 Mar 2014

Saturday 22nd March 7pm for show and dinner.
Ruth Rich has hit the menopause.  Colin Firth has disappeared from her dreams and eldest child, Laura (21) is away at uni.  Time to settle down and join a Book Club?   Well, that`s what she thought.  But as Ruth enters the "sandwich" years and worries over her mildly demented mother, her son Freddie`s (15) detention, and daughter Ellie`s (17) driving and drinking, she discovers it is not easy to please everyone - particularly not the cosmetically enhanced but demanding and vacuous Timmy`s Mum.  So, does a little white lie get her out of trouble?  Er, no.  Not when everyone around her is being sparing with the truth too ....

This is another witty and entertaining show in the style of "Ten Days .. that shook the kitchen!" and "Family Matters" describing a middle aged mum`s efforts to keep everything running smoothly as chaos unfolds.
    Tickets: Helen Wilce - 07789 655617 / Julie Mason - 07540 133132 or school office .

  • After School Library Expansion

    Fri 07 Mar 2014
From Monday 10th March we are also going to extend the use of the library to include free use of the ICT facilities. This may benefit families who do not have the internet at home, however it cannot be used for social networking due to the high level of protection our school system has. Children must be supervised for this ICT use and the timings are the same as those for the library – 3.15 - 4pm.
It will be a fabulous opportunity to see some of the many programmes your children use during their day and an opportunity to work on school projects and homework. There will be a signing in and out sheet so that we know who is on the school site in case of an emergency – this has to be adhered to. Our thanks go to our fantastic Library ladies – Mrs Smith and Mrs Hunt - for making it possible for us to extend this opportunity to you.
  • World Book Day

    Thu 06 Mar 2014
The Dassett was full of unusual characters on Thursday as we celebrated World Book day. Harry Potter and his friend Hermione, Pippi Longstocking and Peter Pan, the Gruffalo and Cat in the Hat, Princesses and Knights, witches and pirates, Gangsta Grannies and Fantastic Foxes were amongst many new but recognisable faces and it all contributed to a great, fun day at school. Thank you to you all for the effort you made to make this event so wonderful – we hope your children enjoyed it as much as we did! Despite lots of phone calls and e-mails, it has been extremely difficult to get hold of bulk quantities of the World Book Day books this year and so, instead, your child has come home with a token for £1 towards any book at participating stores as part of World Book Day.
