  • Wolf Run

    Thu 26 May 2016

There is a team of Parents and Lynne from Care Club, who are running the Wolf Run on 11th June to raise money towards new interactive whiteboards for every classroom at the school.  The white boards cost around £2000 each and our old ones desperately need replacing.  Please give whatever you can in sponsorship.  There are sponsor forms in Care Club and Abacus and a Just Giving page at https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/dassettwhiteboards

  • Childline and NSPCC

    Thu 12 May 2016

On Wednesday 18th May, Deborah Sharp from the NSPCC is returning to The Dassett to deliver her extremely important ‘Speak Out, Stay Safe’ message in assembly. This follows on from the Taking Care Protective Behaviour project we do in school and is a key part of our safeguarding education for children. All of the assemblies are age appropriate and the teachers will be present. She will then follow up with Years 5 and 6 with class workshops. By the end of this visit, we’re convinced children will feel empowered – knowing how they can speak out and stay safe. If you’d like to know more about the NSPCC’s work, or take a look at the wide range of information and advice which is available for parents and carers, please visit their website nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/keeping-children-safe

As part of this, the NSPCC would like us to do some fundraising for them so that Childline can continue their crucial service for many years to come. We will be sending home a sponsor form with each child and will be doing a sponsored general knowledge quiz in each class at an age appropriate level. There will be 20 questions in all year groups apart from Reception who will have 10 questions. This sponsored event will happen on Friday 27th May – the last day of this half term. If you do not wish to seek sponsors, you may just want to contribute a small amount e.g. £1.00. Each child will get a sticker for participating. All sponsor forms and money must be back in school on Tuesday 7th or Wednesday 8th June, as they are being collected on Thursday 9th by Childline. We really hope you will support this and, in doing so, help all children to have someone to talk to if they need help.
  • Competitions, Music, Publicity, Donations and Help

    3. A Photography Competition with age ranges of Under 6 years, 6-12 years, 12-18 years and adult. The theme is Farming.

Why not enter one or all and have a go at impressing the judges? Free to enter and open to anyone - send entries in by Thursday 19th May and ensure full names and ages are on the back. All entries will be displayed on the day.

    Publicity

Could you deliver fliers to the houses in your village to help advertise the imminent Farmers’ Market? You may be able to team up with some other people and share the workload. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.  Could you put up a poster where you work? If you could help in any way please let Mrs. Hine know on Monday or via e-mail on head33216@welearn365.com. Thank you.

    Music at the Farmers’ Market

If you play an instrument and would like to do a short performance during the farmer’s Market (21st May 12-4pm) then please let Mrs. Hine know – we need performances from 2-4pm.

    Donations needed

Plants, Cakes, Books and Cups and Saucers and Garden Twine are needed in order to make our Farmers’ Market an enormous success.  Cups and Saucers are needed for the Year 5 garden craft they are making, Garden Twine is needed for the Year 2 craft – next week would be perfect. Books for the second hand book stall are welcome right up to an including the day of the Farmers’ Market – please start sending them into school and we will store them in advance. Cakes will be requested for the day before the market.

    Helpers

Could you spare a couple of hours on the day to help? We need people to help in the morning setting up or to run a stall from either 12-2pm or 2 to 4pm. Parents, grandparents, friends – all are welcome and it is actually quite good fun! Year 5 & 6 helpers are also needed and they will receive a separate letter.
