  • A Bountiful Harvest

    Sun 29 Sep 2013
Thank you to all of you for your fabulous contributions to our Harvest Service on Friday morning and to those of you who were able to join us for this celebration. It was wonderful to see so many of you in Church and along with the children we certainly did raise the roof! The Church looked resplendent as the alter was filled with a wide selection of our donated produce, and our thanks go to Kate Distin for a thoroughly enjoyable service.

You will all have received a letter on Monday explaining that on Tuesday 1st October the school will be closed due to NUT and NASUWT strike action. I can assure you that this is not a decision that staff have taken lightly. This industrial action will last for one day only.

  • Mad for Maths

    Sun 22 Sep 2013
We are delighted to report that Bob Davies, Senior Lecturer in Maths from Bath Spa University is going to be with us Monday and Tuesday of this week, working with every class, and focussing on investigative maths.
Bob has worked in many other schools within the County and is renowned for his innovative style and presentation and we really hope he enjoys his time with us here at The Dassett. This is a tremendous opportunity for the school and are really excited about his being with us and are especially looking forward to being able to further increase the strength of mathematics provision in school.
  • Governor Vacancy

    Fri 20 Sep 2013

We have one vacancy for Parent Governor. Any parent with a child at this school on 1 September 2013, except a parent solely with a child/ren in a nursery unit, wishing to stand for election must be proposed and seconded by two other parents of a pupil or pupils on the roll of the school. Neither the proposer nor the seconder may be the spouse/partner or immediate family of the nominee or be related in any way to one another.

As a parent governor your term of office will be four years from 1 November 2013 unless you choose to resign before then. The Local Authority is required to provide training for governors and you will be required to attend this training course at a future date once elected.

We are looking for people who are interested in the school, have a range of skills to offer the school eg. legal, financial, educational, business, HR etc,and who are prepared to devote time to playing a part in its future. Governors are involved in discussing school policy, monitoring the effectiveness of the school, making appointments and overseeing the school’s financial affairs.

Governors meet at least once each term as a full governing body and twice a term as members of either the Resources Sub-Committee or Quality and Standards Sub-Committee. They are also invited in to school to support classes and acquaint themselves with different curriculum areas.

Nomination forms are available from the school office or below. The last date for receipt of nominations is Friday 4 October 2013. If only one person is nominated there will be no need for an election; the nominee would simply be declared to be a parent governor.

If more nominations are received than there are places, a ballot will be held and if necessary you will be informed about this and the arrangements for voting at a later date. Nominees are invited to provide a brief personal statement for circulation to parents with a ballot paper if an election is necessary. In order to save time, would you please submit your statement with your initial nomination form.

As a parent of a child/ren at the school (excluding parents solely with a child/ren in the nursery unit), you will of course be entitled to vote at any parent governor election whether or not you are interested in standing for election. If you are not interested in the possibility of becoming a governor there is no need for further action. Remember, nominations have to be in by 3.15 pm on Friday 4 October 2013.

  • The End of The Fenny Compton Brownies?

    Mon 09 Sep 2013

Monday evenings at The Dassett may never be the same again, the hall resounding to the sound of happy girls learning, exploring and playing may, sadly, be coming to an end. This could be the last term of the 1st Fenny Compton Brownies with the group finishing in December unless someone can take up the mantle.

Would you be or do you know someone who would be willing to run the group? Please contact Sue Collins (Brown Owl) on 07708499525 if you can help in any way.

It would be a real shame for this wonderful community group to finish and it is a really rewarding way of helping our youngsters.

  • A Sporting Start

    Tue 03 Sep 2013

We are delighted to report that our Specialist Sports Teaching with 'Onside Coaching' started on Day 1 of our new academic year with Year 1 and Year 2 pupils benefitting from their expertise. The children and teachers (Mr Duffy and Mr Compton) really enjoyed their session and were all 'puffed out' after their running around in the 'Motorway Game'. They are really looking forward to next week and represented the school extremely well. Mr Duffy and Mr Compton commented on the children's excellent behaviour and will be working with pupils in Year 1 - 6 throughout the whole of the Autumn Term, when class teachers have their PPA time. For Year 5 and 6 this will be on Wednesdays and for Year 3 and 4 this will be on Thursday. This term the skills that the children will be developing are those linked to the game of handball.
