  • Diamond Jubilee History Book

    Sun 29 Apr 2012

As the date of the Diamond Jubilee approaches, Avon Dassett Local History Group are aiming to produce a new, completely updated history of the village as a community project involving residents of all ages in the research, transcription and analysis of sources, as well as the writing and presentation. In keeping with the digital age, the booklet will be supplemented by full transcriptions of sources, oral histories, photographs and maps on the Local History group area of the Avon Dassett Parish website.
It will be a professional history rather than the largely anecdotal version produced in 1977 for the Silver Jubilee. But, it will involve the whole community with residents encouraged to research the history of their houses; a series of talks by experts; practical activities such as landscape mapping and recording; an imaginative writing competition in conjunction with The Dassett School and Bishops Itchington Primary School and a presentation at a symposium on parish history at the University of Warwick in May 2012.

  • Plant, Cake and Book Sale a Big Success

    Sat 28 Apr 2012

The Friends' Plant, Cake and Book sale that took place on Saturday 28th was an absolutely super event and was extremely well attended by children, parents and villagers alike.
A huge array of donated plants were snapped up along with many books and cakes. (even Mrs Hine's banana bread went!) Second hand uniform was on sale, tea and coffee was also on offer and the children were kept busy designing flags and bracelets. The photography competition entries were amazing and the judging was very difficult. Winners to be announced in next Friday's celebration assembly, in In Touch and on The Dassett website.
A very big thank you to Farnborough Garden Centre and to Barn Farm Plants for their donations, all of the many happy bakers who contributed cakes, everyone that attended on the day and an especially big thank you to The Friends, who once again have put on a fabulous event. Details to follow on the amount raised.

Don't forget tickets are now on sale for the comedy night on the Saturday 16th June with female comedienne, Ginny Davis. Tickets £12 to include food.

  • New School Website Launched!

    Fri 27 Apr 2012
Welcome to our brand new school website!
We have created the website to keep parents up to date with school news and notices, and to showcase some of the great things our pupils are achieving. We have an extensive and FUN games section in Children and in the Class Pages the teachers will be keeping you updated with class activities, homework etc. You can find all newsletters (in colour) and letters on the site together with school menus and notices. The Friends have a section to keep you informed about the latest fun events coming up and we have a comprehensive list of all clubs, the curriculum in detail and links to every organisation that we work with or support. Our hope is that you will find this an indespensible tool in the support of your children's education and that our pupils will use this as a tool in their day to day learning. If there is anything you would like to see on the site please let us know.
  • Big Changes to School Meals

    Fri 27 Apr 2012
As a result of a recent meeting with County Caterers, there will be a third daily option of a Jacket Potato with a different filling each day and there will also be a salad bar available every day. Meals will still operate on a coloured wrist band system and the price for meals will remain the same. We feel this is a really positive step towards even better school meal choice and hope your child will enjoy the future dining experience at The Dassett. If your child does not currently have school meals these changes may entice them! These changes will take place after half term but in the meantime we have a couple of improvements that have been made to the existing menu. Please see the current newsletter's menu or the school meals page on the website for details.
