  • Linking to The Calendar

    Thu 17 Dec 2015

A new feature of our website allows you to subscribe to events from the calendar so that they download into your own personal calendar on your mobile phone, tablet or computer.

All you need to do is visit the calendar on the school website and click the link called ‘Link the school events to your personal calendar’. You can then choose from three options: to add to your default calendar (for example, on an iPhone it will go to the iPhone calendar); to add it to your Google calendar; or input it to your calendar programme of choice.

    http://www.thedassettprimary.co.uk/diary/list/

    Things to know:

When we edit the calendar, the updates will appear automatically in your calendar (the time that this takes to happen will depend on your calendar programme).

You cannot edit the events in the school calendar.

All events will pull through in one colour only, not the colours set by the school.

You can name the calendar and choose how often to receive updates (we recommend you set this to as often as possible).

You can unsubscribe via your own calendar at any time.

  • Food For Life Bronze Award

    Tue 15 Dec 2015

We are delighted to be able to report that we have been awarded the Food for Life Bronze award for our healthy and climate-friendly food culture.

The school is working with Food for Life to transform the school’s food culture, by connecting the children with climate-friendly and healthy food.

As part of the Bronze award scheme - which requires you to fulfill 27 quite demanding requirements, we serve seasonal school meals, over 75% of which are freshly prepared by our experienced fabulous school cook, Pam and her team. We have put in place the opportunity for every pupil to visit a farm (starting with Year 2 in March), cook and participate in food growing activities during his or her time at school, and pupils and parents are involved in making improvements to the school’s menu and dining experience.

We have also been working very hard through the Gardening and Cooking Clubs to further the experience of the children and have many very exciting projects coming up in 2016.

You can find out more about Food for Life and the Awards, and read The Dassett Blog here:

  • Rocket Science and Tim Peake

    Mon 14 Dec 2015

As you probably already know, British European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Tim Peake will fly to the International Space Station (ISS) tomorrow for his six-month Principia mission.
Tim is launching at 11:02am tomorrow on a Soyuz spacecraft from Baikonur, Kazakhstan which was rolled out onto the launch pad yesterday (watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpV2CU3QFb4). Tim and the crew are due to rendezvous with the ISS at 5:23pm before climbing on-board to their new home at 7pm.
You can watch Tim's launch on a very special episode of Stargazing Live tomorrow at 10:30am on BBC One. There will then be a second evening Stargazing Live programme at 7pm on BBC Two showing Tim's arrival on the ISS.
Tim is an inspirational role model for young people across the UK and is dedicated to encouraging children to engage with STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects. It is because of this, that the RHS partnered with the UK Space Agency to launch Rocket Science. The Dassett children, through the Gardening Club are one of the lucky groups of Rocket Seed Scientists and are so excited about being involved with this experiment.

If you're on Twitter, keep in touch with the RHS and involved in the launch by using #RocketScience and #Principia. You can also tweet Tim Peake himself using @astro_timpeake.

    Good Luck Tim!

  • Coventry Cathedral Christingle

    Thu 10 Dec 2015

Mrs. Hine was so proud of the 14 children (2 from  each class) who accompanied her to Coventry Cathedral’s Christingle on Wednesday morning. Two of our pupils, Alana (Y6) and Becky (Y5) did a reading and, despite the grandeur of the venue, were supremely confident. The rest of the children enjoyed songs and the story of the Christingle and behaved superbly well. It was a pleasure to take them and a big thank you to the parents who helped with the transport.

  • Christmas Cheer at the Christmas Fayre

    Thu 03 Dec 2015

A massive thank you and 3 cheers to The Friends of The Dassett for their amazing organisation of the fabulous Christmas Fayre last Friday evening. It was such a good night with plenty of festive cheer and this takes a lot of dedication, and I have received a lot of very positive feedback. Also a huge thank you to everyone who came along, helping to raise funds for the school, whilst having a wonderful time. So many prizes were won, crafts were made, chocolates were eaten, and drinks were enjoyed - not to mention the joy of seeing Father Christmas in his grotto. Well done to our amazing singers who performed to open the Fayre – they had to cope with the heavens opening and then Santa arriving in the middle of their second song but in true Dassett spirit they did not let this phase them and were simply brilliant.  The final amount of money raised will be announced shortly.

If you would like to be involved in any way with events like these please let Mrs. Hine know – we are looking for a new Chair for 2016.
