  • The Dassett maypole dancers shine at the Church Fete

    Sat 30 Jun 2012
A wonderful afternoon was had by all at the Church Fete, held in the absolutely delightful gounds of The Lodge, by very kind permission of Mr and Mrs Paulk . There were delightful face paintings, raffles, skittles, tombola, pony rides, archery, book stall, lucky dips, a marvellous barbecue...in fact it would be easier to list the things that weren't there!
A brief squall mid afternoon did nothing to dampen spirits and amidst it all The Dassett maypole dancers once again did us all proud and completed two beautiful dances to the delight of everyone there. A massive well done to you all.

  • Classes for next year

    Tue 26 Jun 2012

The children met their 'new' class teachers today and spent the morning working in their new classrooms. There was much excitement as teachers were announced in an early assembly and then all the children filed out of the hall with their teacher for next year.
We also wlecomed our new reception intake for their first induction session so it was a busy morning for everyone.
When I spoke to the children at lunchtime they said they had had a great morning!

    The classes are as follows:

    Reception - Miss Kirsten Gasson

Year 1 - Mrs Nicola Payne

Year 2 - Mrs Sam Parkes

Year 3 - Mrs Sam Moll

Year 4 - Miss Jo Gasson

Year 5 - Miss Louise Letchford

Year 6 - Mr David Hann

  • Parent Questionnaire Results

    Mon 25 Jun 2012

The parent questionnaire that we sent out was responded to in droves, in fact we had 108 separate responses and we have attached the results below. We are delighted with the responses and the incredibly positive feeling and attitude that exists towards The Dassett is absolutely heart-warming.  Some parents have individual points of concern and there are a couple of generic points which we will and in some cases already are actioning.

We do have to thank you though, for so many of you contributing to this questionnaire and being so honest and constructive. It is this sort of feedback and support that we are looking for to help us to become an outstanding school.

  • Playground Clearance Day 1

    Sat 23 Jun 2012
    The work has begun...and ended.
An absolutely fantastic effort from everyone here on Saturday has cleared all the outer edges of the playground ready for our new parent shelter/ outdoor classroom and rubber mulch play area. The children's old shelters have been 'modified' and there are now four outdoor seating areas and planters alongside the pathway. The contractors are due to come on Tuesday for the installation of the new areas.
A small plea. If anyone has any small/large shrubs or plants that are surplus to requirements or that they could split, we would be very grateful recipients for the edge of the new planter/seating area.
Finally, once again a massive thank you to everyone who came today for their stirling efforts in chopping, trimming, levelling, moving, mending and clearing and generally getting so much done so quickly.

  • Coventry Cathedral Visit

    Wed 20 Jun 2012
On Monday 18th June Mrs Moll and four children from year 5, Amelie, Matthew, Anna and Miki, represented the Dassett at Coventry Cathedral. They took part in a regional conference with 20 other schools and over 100 year 5 and 8 children. Together they were involved in dynamic and thought provoking discussions and activities investigating beliefs and values of children in our area. It was a busy day in an inspiring setting. As always the children were fantastic ambassadors to our school.
  • The Friends AGM

    Wed 20 Jun 2012
The Friends of The Dassett AGM was held last night and proved what a successful year it has been for fundraising for the school. Our thanks must go to all members of the committee and helpers at events for their unfailing enthusiasm and support of the school.
There were a few goodbyes to be said to committee members Louise Beale and Jocelyn Lewry, who have been on The Friends for more years than they would care to mention, but will no longer have children at the school as they leave Year 6 in July. You have been great supporters of the school and will be missed.
Also Caroline Cleaves stepped down as Chair, Claire NIcklin as Treasurer and Philippa Upton as Secretary. A really special thank you must go to them for their hard work in fulfilling these roles so cheerfully, successully and selflessly in a purely voluntary role. Everyone at the school has really appreciated your commitment to raising funds for the chidren.
Helen Wilce has kindly volunteered to be the new chair and Kate Swinsom (a new parent into Reception in September) has agreed to take on the role of treasurer. Thank you.
The position of Secretary is still up for grabs and will be decided in September. If you are interested please come along to the meeting at the beginning of the Autumn Term - everyone is very welcome.
  • Ten Days...that shook the kitchen!

    Sun 17 Jun 2012

What an absolutely fabulous evening was had on Saturday all in aid of guided reading books for The Dassett. The Friends put on a, hopefully now annual, comedy night featuring the wonderful Ginny Davis. Ginny, whose one woman play was an Edinburgh Fringe sell out, had everyone roaring with laughter at the exploits of Ruth Rich and the Rich family. It was a superb show, hilarious for anyone in contact with family life or in touch with early years of schooling.
The hall was splendidly bedecked, every table featuring a flower display by Tilly in Year 2, the wine flowed and the food was plentiful and absolutely delicious. Many raffle prizes were won and the hall resounded with laughter. Truly a triumph. A massive well done to everyone involved in organising such an excellent night.
For more information on Ginny Davis and her four one woman plays in celebration of modern family life go to www.ginnydavis.com.
For more information and photos and thanks from Caroline see the past events section in PTA.

  • Year 5 Cycling Awareness

    Sat 16 Jun 2012

Year 5 took part in Warwickshire's cycling awareness on Friday 15th June. They managed to avoid the showers and had a super afternoon looking at how to ride with increased confidence and skill in preparation for when they access cycling on the roads. There were a few wobbles but lots of smiles and it was great to see the children getting to know how to check whether their bicycles are roadworthy and safe.

  • Fenny Compton Through the Ages Exhibition

    Sun 03 Jun 2012

They closed the road, the temperature dropped, the rain came and still the show went on. The village exhibition was a tremendous success, being exceptionally well supported by parents and villagers alike. The exhibition was opened and children from The Dassett started proceedings with some superb Maypole dancing outside the village hall. A huge amount of effort must have gone into putting on the wide ranging and thoroughly interesting displays and a part of that were the excellent displays of moments in history from The Dassett children. A massive thank you to all the staff and children for their efforts in making our displays so eye catching and a huge well done to all of the organisers of the event.

  • Jubilee Celebrations

    Fri 01 Jun 2012

Everyone had a fabulous time at the Jubilee Shared Lunch. Red, white and blue was very much in evidence throughout the day, synchronised flag waving and rousing versions of God Save the Queen and Land of Hope and Glory were sung. Children made crowns, decorated a fabric square which will be part of a whole school hanging wall display for the main hall, and an inter house rounders match was held. Each child took home a flag and souvenir coin which were both kindly donated by The Friends of The Dassett. What a fantastic way to start the Jubilee weekend.
