  • A Midsummer Night....

    Sat 22 Jun 2013

…. and what a dream of a night! The sun shone, the front of the school was bedecked with bunting, the people came in droves and an absolutely amazing time was had by all. Disco Darryl DJ’d, the Rat was splatted, ice-creams and sweets were devoured and the hot dogs disappeared deliciously. Parents had a wonderful time meeting up, chatting and relaxing with a glass of wine (or two!) and the children just…. enjoyed themselves enormously (if their smiles were anything to go by.)

After lots of planning, phone calls and preparation by our fabulous ‘Friends’, The Dassett Midsummer Party finally arrived on a day that had winds, clouds, showers and then, finally, beautiful sunshine – we were truly blessed. The bar was well stocked and frequently visited and the sweets were ….well, sweet! There was dancing (including some fantastic ‘Gangnam Style’ Mrs Harris!) and all of the stalls were bustling and busy. The Year 6 Human Fruit machine was marvellous fun and some of the children, past and present, managed to get some maths in there too by calculating the probability of three of the same fruit being drawn! There was a raffle and hundred ‘mystery square’, with other prizes to be won and tattoos and glow bands, not forgetting the good old ‘hoopla’.

All in all it was a truly magical Midsummer Eve and our thanks must go to The Friends’ Committee members, the helpers in setting up and dismantling the event, the helpers running the stalls, Dave and Sarah for their brilliant barbecue skills and Darryl for playing the night away. The fun and festivities managed to raise a staggering £1200 for the school and so the final thank you is to everyone who attended and supported this wonderful event.

  • A Carnival of a Year 2 Class Assembly

    Fri 21 Jun 2013
What a carnival of colour, verse, story and imagination met us this morning at the Year 2 Class Assembly. Huge amounts of information were forthcoming in an assembly put together entirely by the children of Year 2 themselves. Adorned with head dresses inspired by Saint Saens Carnival of the Animals the children led us around the world, exploring all sorts of animals, their habits and habitats, even using Powerpoint to illustrate one of their recent field trips, the fossil hunt.
We ended with a rousing song and it was a fabulous way to start our day so a massive well done and thank you to all of them and well deserved merits all round.

  • Bhangra Beats

    Fri 14 Jun 2013

Bollywood came to The Dassett on Thursday when Year 2 pupils (and staff!) were learning how to dance ‘Bhangra Style’ with Liz and Devinder from In2Cultures.
They will be having another practise in two weeks in preparation for an evening performance to their parents, along with many other Infant children from our Cluster of schools, on Friday 12th July.
    What an experience!
