Squirrels (Year 1/2)

Teacher - Miss Claire Cooper

Teaching Assistants - Mrs Clare McMullen, Mrs Claire Costine

This Term:

Welcome to Squirrels class page!

I am really looking forward to getting stuck into our new topic for the spring term, Bright Lights, Big City! In the Bright Lights, Big City project, your child will learn the story of a local landmark. They will learn about the countries that make up the United Kingdom, including their location, capital cities and some of their physical and human features. They will have the opportunity to do map work, using compasses and positional and directional language to plan routes around London. They will research the cause and impact of the Great Fire of London and look at some famous London landmarks. They will learn about other capital cities around the world, including Kuala Lumpur, and compare how they are similar and different to London.

We will continue to fill our days with phonics, RE, PE, computing, spelling and grammar and music! A dance teacher will be coming into school on a Thursday afternoon to continue our indoor PE sessions with me. Mr Stopps will teach the children PE or forest school on a Friday morning. Mrs Dunn will teach the children on a Wednesday morning for their phonics, literacy and maths lessons.

For our Wednesday PE session please make sure your child has a pair of shorts they can change into for our dance lesson in the hall. For PE day on a Friday, please make sure the children are wearing appropriate clothing. PE kit should be shorts/joggers/legging in black, dark blue or grey, with a white t-shirt and a jumper/hoody in black, dark blue or grey. For forest school, water proof coats and trousers will be required. Children should be wearing trainers for outside sports and have welly boots for forest school.

I am really looking forward to another fantastic term!
