  • Proper Presentation

    Fri 28 Feb 2014
We have spent some time focussing on the importance of taking care and making an effort with presentation and handwriting within our work and feeling a real sense of pride over what we do. As you already know in Year 5 and 6 pupils earn the right to have a Pen Licence when they consistently present their work neatly and with well-formed and joined writing over a period of time.
We are now going to extend this to Year 4 pupils as well.
Year 1, 2 and 3 pupils will have the opportunity to be presented with a certificate in assembly and earn the right to use a special embossed pencil if they do the same, with the distinct possibility of Year 3 pupils then moving to a Pen Licence. On occasions where it is felt that effort has not been made, silly errors have been made and work presented is not of a child’s highest standard, the child will be asked to re-write the piece of work with the option of doing it at home or during the next lunch break. They will still be allowed to have some time to get some fresh air as well.
We truly believe that it is important to always do our very best and that ‘Better Never Stops’ and I know that the children will rise to this challenge.
  • Our Big Birdwatch

    Fri 14 Feb 2014

Anne Fisher, from the RSPB, presented an assembly to the whole school on Tuesday about the importance of the Birdwatch and how some species are vanishing from our countryside.
She then did a birdwatch with some pupils from each year group (although the birds were not out in their multitudes due to the weather!) and worked with Year 3 to think about different habitats for the birds.
We thank Anne for giving up her time and sharing her expertise and enthusiasm with the children. It was greatly appreciated and a real inspiration for the children.

  • 2nd Hand Uniform

    Fri 14 Feb 2014
Thanks to everyone who has donated school uniform over the past couple of months.  We now have a good amount of stock, including school sweatshirts and cardigans (most sizes), boys’ trousers (from aged 4 up to 7; also, 12-13), girls’ skirts (most sizes) and three school coats (3-4; 5-6; 12-13).
So, if your children have grown since the start of the year, or need a few spare items when uniform comes home caked in mud, take a look at the stock list on the website and contact Jane Ainley on  01295 770991/07977 205345, jane@wilsonainley.com.
  • Free School Meals and Funding

    Fri 14 Feb 2014
Free School Meals are available to children whose parents are in receipt of an appropriate benefit. Eligible children receive a nutritious meal every lunchtime, with different options available each day. Children receiving Free School Meals can choose from exactly the same food as those children purchasing a lunch. Applying for Free School Meals has never been easier. Parents can either call 01926 742060 or visit www.warwickshire.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals and receive an instant decision regarding eligibility. Any information you provide will be treated in absolute confidence. If you receive any of the following benefits then your child may be eligible for Free School Meals:
    • Income Support or Income-Based Job Seekers Allowance (but not Contribution Based Job Seeker’s Allowance).
    • The Guarantee Element of State Pension Credit.
    • Child Tax Credit where the family’s annual income as assessed by HMRC is not in excess of £16,190. Please note that families who are also entitled to Working Tax Credit do not qualify for Free School Meals.
    • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
    • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance (but not Contribution-Based Employment and Support Allowance).
Many parents do not apply for Free School Meals because they do not realise they qualify. Other parents do not apply because they prefer to make alternative arrangements for their child’s lunch. Schools can still benefit though if a child is eligible for Free School Meals, even if they do not take up their entitlement. Every child entitled to Free School Meals means an extra £1,300 for the school which we can use to address inequality.
If your child does not currently receive Free School Meals but you think that you might qualify then please do apply using one of the methods shown above. In this case, there really is such a thing as a free lunch! Even when all infant children are entitled to a school meal in September, it is important to let Warwickshire know if you qualify for this, as there is funding available to support children’s learning.
