February Maths Challenge
Key Stage 1
There are three baskets, a brown one, a red one and a pink one, holding a total of ten eggs. The Brown basket has one more egg in it than the Red basket.
The Red basket has three eggs less than the Pink basket.
How many eggs are in each basket?
Lower Key Stage 2
Use a calculator to work out these ‘words’ by doing the calculations and turning your calculator upside down to see the answer (e.g. 0.7734 = hello)
1. 39459 ÷ 7 2. 15469 x 5
3. The square root (√) of 59876644
4. 10000 – 9393 . 1792202 x 3
There are loads more words you can make up. Try them for yourself. Can you make a five letter word? Can you work out a question to give the answers ‘giggles’ and ‘globe’?
Upper Key Stage 2
At the school sports day, the children had a long jump competition. Adeel jumped 4.54m. Zain jumped ½ m further than Kasper. Jala jumped 15cm further than Adeel. Jannath jumped 0.6m further than Malak. Mahmud jumped 23cm further than Jala. Amina jumped ¾ m further than the 2nd place child. Shakeem jumped ¼ m less than Mahmud. Shada jumped 0.8m further than Shakeem. Kasper jumped 0.15m less than Jannath.
Malak jumped 40mm less than Shada.
Can you use the clues to write down the finishing positions? What was the average length of jump?
