Welcome to Reception & Year 1
Teacher: Miss Chance
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Costine
Welcome to Reception & Year 1. In our class, children have the opportunity to become independent and curious learners. We achieve this through active learning within the classroom provision. Children are encouraged to think critically, be creative learners and explore their surroundings.
The children have access to a range of areas of learning including:
Four Specific areas of learning:
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts & Design
Three Prime areas of learning:
- Personal, Social & Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication & Language
This term our topic is School Days.
Reception & Year 1 will be learning about schooling in the Victorian era. We will compare it to school today and they will have the opportunity to take part in a traditional Victorian class.
In Science, we will be exploring Plant Parts and Animal Parts. We will also be learning about sources of food and the preparatory skills in Design and Technology.
Reception will begin Phase 3 phonics - most of the children are now writing CVC words independently.
Year 1 will continue to work through Phase 5 phonics - in this phase we focus on alternative spellings.
Spellings & Reading:
Spelling tests will take place every Friday afternoon, so please ensure that your children are learning these at home in preparation for the short test. A list of each groups spellings are available on our class page.
Reading books are sent home on a Monday and need to be returned by Thursday so children can be given a new book by the following Monday.
