Welcome to Reception & Year 1. In our class, children have the opportunity to become independent and curious learners. We achieve this through active learning within the classroom provision. Children are encouraged to think critically, be creative learners and explore their surroundings.
The children have access to a range of areas of learning including:
Four Specific areas of learning:
- Understanding the World

Three Prime areas of learning:
- Personal, Social & Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication & Language
This term our topic is Marvellous Me!
Reception will be settling into the new rules and routines of school and making new friends and feeling confident in their class. They will focus on how they are unique and special, the importance of friendship and how people in their family, school and local community are important and can help them.
Year 1 will be focusing on everyday life and families today, including comparisons with childhood in the 1950s, using artefacts and a range of different sources.
Reception will begin with Phase 1 which focuses on listening & attention skills. In week 2/3 they will begin Phase 2 which teaches them their initial sounds.
Year 1 will begin by recapping some Phase 3 sounds and progress onto starting Phase 5.
