This Term:

Welcome to Year 3

I hope you all had a fabulous summer, we have lots to look forward to this term…

Get ready to put on your toga and dust off your sandals as we travel back in time to Ancient Greece. During this topic, we will be learning about the rich history and culture of this time period and how it came to shape the world we live in today- from their famous battles, the mystical gods and goddesses and finding out how the Olympic games all started.

In English, we will start the year by making cross-curricular links with our topic: studying exciting myths and legends such as, ’Theseus and the Minotaur.’ The children will gain a variety of enjoyable learning opportunities, such as making a Greek mask and writing their own Greek myth. We will then be making links with science during our poetry unit, as we listen, read and perform poems about animals. We will be creating our own anthology, made up of poems we liked and one we will write ourselves.

In Science, we will be getting out and about exploring the habitats of different creatures- great and small. We will investigate why animals choose their particular homes and how we can help them to survive in our local area. We will be making cross-curricular links in English here too as we produce our own fact-file of a creature we will have researched.

We will start the year in maths by: visiting place value of numbers; looking at the written methods for addition and subtraction and recognising and describing the properties of 2-D and 3-D shapes.

Please keep an eye on this page as we will be adding photos of all the exciting things we get up to very soon.
