So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehn, Adieu

It has been such a joy to have been Headteacher of this wonderful school for the past 6½ years and to have seen a cohort of children go all the way through the school from Reception to be about to leave Year 6, ready for the next stage of their school career. Over the years I have enjoyed the clubs, the Arts Weeks, the Music Festivals, the fabulous Friends events, the awards and recognitions for maths, gardening, healthy schools and STEM engineering. Our 180th birthday is a memory I will always have, when all of the past heads who were still alive joined us. The school environment has changed to include the Peace Garden, improvements to the little playground, our fantastic allotments (thanks Mr Hine!) and internally our amazing displays and artwork. The friendships and community spirit within the school at all levels – children, parents, staff and governors – have been a privilege to be a part of and the school has gone from strength to strength thanks to this amazing team spirit. Ofsted have been twice in my time here and I was so pleased when they recognised and acknowledged the high standard of education we provide, the superb pastoral support, nurture and care that we give the children in our care and the enormously confident, hardworking, kind and helpful children within our school. The residential visits I have been on are always a treat and seeing the children push themselves outside of their comfort zone and achieve more than they thought is such a pleasure. I am going to miss everyone more than I can say and will never forget the people that make The Dassett such a special place.

As I move on, I am looking forward to the new challenges I will face and to hearing all about the next stage in the long history of The Dassett. As I write in the leavers’ book – you may leave The Dassett but The Dassett will never leave you and it has a very special place in my heart.

Thank you for all your kind words, thoughts and wishes and generous gifts – I wish you a safe and enjoyable Summer holiday and know the staff will be looking forward to seeing their new classes on Tuesday 4th September.
